I'm a big fan of writing thank you messages (hand written letters > emails). However, the response to your message is dependent on what is read. Here's why -

I’m wondering if the responses to thank you emails are all generic or if they are genuinely happy to hear from me lol.
If this is specific to post-interview thank you emails, I'd say it depends on how personable and meaningful the message was. Bringing up specific encounters and conversations goes a long way in expressing your character/interest as a candidate imo. Generic emails will get the attention they deserve. If you're going to write one, make it personable. Good luck!
